Being arrested and convicted of DUI can have far reaching effects and some of these having nothing to do with the legal system. Several of the outcomes that you may not have thought of can be a very serious problem for you and your family.

Being convicted of DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol) has a huge social impact. Your family can be affected by your picture being in the newspaper or even worse if you are involved in a traffic accident your name and photo will be in the evening television news. This information can follow you and your family for the rest of your life.
Another consequence can occur when you apply for residence at an apartment or other rental property; chances are that the landlord will do a background check as most do now. Most rental applications will ask potential residents whether they have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. A DUI conviction could be either and your application could be denied.
You might lose your job if it involves operating a company vehicle. Even if you do not have to drive a company vehicle you may find it difficult to get a new job when you have been convicted of a misdemeanor; let alone a felony.
